Hi. You guys know that we always try to be very polite over here, because, you know, people read the stuff on this site, and, it’s really not cool to put people down. That having been said, I need to write a bit about American Idol 5 contestant Taylor Hicks, because, it looks like he’s quite likely going to take the crown.

The other day, my mother said to me, “Taylor’s going to win this thing.” I told her, “Ma, you don’t need to be Nostradamus for that prediction.” In other words… it seems quite likely.

So, let’s just touch upon the Taylor Hicks basics. He’s from Birmingham, Alabama. He auditioned in Las Vegas. His fave female artist is Cyndi Lauper, and, I give Taylor some major bonus points for that one! I’m not talking Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. I’m talking the sad and moving tunes like True Colors and Time After Time. Listen… you’ll see Cyndi’s been there. She knows a bit about the blues.

Taylor’s American Idol is Ray Charles, which seems fitting, as Taylor’s on the whole soulful blues tip. Prior to Taylor’s American Idol journey, he opened for the likes of James Brown, Robert Randolph, and Tom Petty.

And, a Taylor Hicks memory that seems to stick out for a lot of people is when Taylor walked up to Simon, Paula, and Randy while playing his harmonica.

Okay, Taylor has got huge talent. Of that, there’s no doubt. And, at the moment, he’s one of the final five AI finalists. And, his fans call themselves Soul Patrol, and, Taylor’s been known to call out “Soul Patrol!” during the Idol program. And, Taylor’s been known to exclaim, “Woooo! Wooooo!” And, Taylor seems to have a lot of quirky, or, let’s say eccentric body movements. Oh, yeah.

Okay, so, as you know, Kpickler.com is a friendly site that’s about celebrating music. We don’t like knocking people, but, we do try to be honest. So, I’ve got to tell you. Initially, I found the whole “WOooo! Woooo!” thing a bit annoying. Or, let’s say, I thought it was, perhaps, a bit of an act. I’ve actually changed my mind on that a bit though. I think Taylor is pretty genuine, and, that, truth be told, he’s just a sort of interesting and nutty character. If Taylor wins American Idol, I’d say that was fair enough. He does have a lot of talent. I would have liked to have seen Kellie win, of course, but, you know…
