Kellie lives with her Grandfather. Her mother left when Kellie was only two years old, which, she tells us, "is devastating for a child, because you wonder, 'Why doesn't your mother want anything to do with you?" Kellie's father has been in-and-out of prison pretty much her whole life. She says about her father, "He's a drug user." During her interview, Kellie begins weeping as she recounts the sorrow of growing up with a locked-up pop.

Miss Stanly County 2004

Well, Kellie is from Stanly County, Albemarle, North Carolina. In 2004 she won the distinguished honor of being Miss Stanly County. Need anyone say any more? And, is anyone surprised? : )

"Gimme The Mike Charlotte" Finalist

Kellie was a finalist in this competition last August. Reports have it that she delivered a mind-blowing performance of the country-crooning classic, "Stand By Your Man." Kellie told everybody that she wanted "to go deep into the roots of country music!" Kellie's former experience, of course, is wonderful news for her fans, as she's already a somewhat seasoned competitor, which will no doubt be an advantage, when stepping on stage, aware that millions of viewers throughout the world will be watching you, and thousands of web geeks : ) will be blogging your every move and note.

"I Have Nothing To Go Back Home For"

Kellie tells the American Idol viewing public that she has "nothing to go back home for." This is the sad statement that really caught me ear. To me, it showed the depths of a complex personality and personal history. Kellie obviously is determined to triumph via the American Idol vehicle.

Kellie Catches The Judges Ears

Kellie Pickler strolled into the Greensboro audition (televised January, 24, 2006) with the number 61615 fastened onto the front of her purple shirt. She appears casual in jeans, though, also somewhat nervous. She tells the judges that she's going to sing Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone," and recognizes that she's "got some big shoes to fill." Kellie goes on to fill the shoes! : )

"I Like The Conviction In Your Voice"

After her Greensboro audition performance, Paula tells Kellie, "You're adorable. I like the conviction in your voice. I like you." Simon agrees, saying, "I think you're terrific! I really do like you." After Kellie leaves, Simon continues, "That's a nice girl. That's someone I'd like to see do well." Kellie joins her friends, Ken Morton and Summer Miller, where she's overwhelmed with tears and joy. She says that she's going to write her dad and tell him the news.

And, considering Kellie's got nothing to go back home for, we can safely assume that she's going to give American Idol her all, and, it should make for spectacular performances during the Hollywood phase of the competition.
