I Love This Show!

That's the first thing I've got to say: I love American Idol! Really, I hear a lot of different opinions about the Fox network and about the American Idol program, but, really, tell me... who out there brings forth better entertainment? Nobody, in my humble opinion. And, truth is... the American Idol program has become a type of democratic institution which gives everyone a chance to get some exposure and make their dreams real. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. And, even if you don't win, you still get huge exposure... millions of people!

How Popular Is This Thing?

Well, to give you some idea about our fascination (or should I say obsession... I admit it!) with American Idol, consider this: in early February, when the Wednesday Idol aired at the same time as the Grammy awards, the American Idol program captured 28.3 million viewers, while the Grammy's pulled in 15.1. Yes, this is true! This is according to the very well respected Nielsen Media Research. And, recently, the American Idol program has been often pulling in over 30 million viewers. Think about that! That's a lot of people.

Why Do I Love American Idol So Much?

Okay, fair question... and, again this may sound a little corny, but, the Idol program is wrapped up in so many memories for me... the wonderful break I got from my studies when I watched Kelly Clarkson and Justin squaring off. Sitting with my father and seeing George Huff bust out with "Lean On Me" with the crazy squatting dance. And who can forget Jasmine Trias and her flower. Or crooner John Stevens. Or Jim Verraros. Or Clay Aiken and Ruben squaring off with "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Tears of a Clown". Or Constantine Maroulis rocking Queen. And, I'll mention George Huff again: "Take Me To The Pilot." I mean... this is some good stuff, and, this year's the best yet. And, oh yes, Fantasia! Fantasia Barrino and Carrie Underwood and Latoya London and Jennifer Hudson... and, I could really go on and on! Memories baby! Wonderful memories.

What About Season 5?

I think Season 5 Idol is turning out to be the best yet. I, obviously, was pretty taken by Kellie right out of the gate: the talent, compassion, intelligence... and, you know, just about the loveliest voice I ever did hear! And, we all want Kellie to win, but, I've got to tell you: our dear Kellie's got some pretty tough competition this year! We've really got to get the phones out for the full two hours.

I mean, right off the top of my head, there's Ace Young. This fellow has got the voice (not exactly my cup of tea), but, he's talented, he's got the look, he's a tough competitor. And, then, Gideon has been knocking me out lately with his talent. And, of course, Paris Bennet: this young lady is magical. And, Chris Daughtry... I think everybody already knows Chris is going to be a star. Heck, Chris already is a star. He's got the whole hard rock groove down.

Let's Check Out The Competition

So, let's take a closer look at the competition. But, first, I've got to go downstairs for a bit. You see, it's Thursday, March 9, 7:47 PM, and the American Idol results show is about to come on!
